In 2003, we performed the first da Vinci® robotic prostatectomy in Northwest Ohio. Since then, we’ve performed the most robotic prostatectomies in the area. Additionally, we hold the most directorships of robotics programs in the area.
As the most experienced robotic surgeons in Northwest Ohio, we also use robotics for kidney surgery such as cancer, reconstruction or repair. We performed the first da Vinci robot-assisted pelvic reconstruction for incontinence and pelvic prolapse (sacrocolpopexy) in Northwest Ohio.
Compassionate patient care, experience and commitment to leading-edge technology are the fundamentals of GUS. At GUS, we aim to be the urologic innovators in the region. Our urologists are constantly learning and incorporating new treatments into their practice. We strive to treat every patient as an individual, improving their quality of life through compassion, skill and leading-edge innovation.

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) allows physicians to perform many kinds of major surgery with a variety of benefits for the patient: less trauma and pain, minimal scarring, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays. Surgeries are performed through small incisions, which replace the large incisions needed for conventional open surgeries.
The benefits of MIS are numerous. Traditional surgery often requires a lengthy hospital stay and weeks of recovery. With minimally invasive surgery, the goal is to accomplish internal repair while leaving the body surface as natural as it was prior to surgery. Many procedures require fewer days in the hospital and promote reduced recovery time. Patients can often get back to their normal routines more quickly.
Using a robotic-assisted, minimally invasive approach further minimizes the physical and emotional impact of surgery on patients. By dramatically enhancing visualization, precision, control and dexterity, the da Vinci System overcomes the limitations of traditional laparoscopic technology, helping physicians to perform complex surgery in a manner never before experienced.
The da Vinci Surgical System extends the surgeon’s capabilities to provide these significant benefits:
By enhancing surgical capabilities, da Vinci Surgery offers a number of potential patient benefits, including:
Due to the patient and procedure-specific nature of surgery, these benefits cannot be guaranteed.
The da Vinci System is a sophisticated robotic platform designed to expand the surgeon's capabilities and - for the first time - offer a minimally invasive option for major surgery.

With da Vinci Surgery, small incisions are used to introduce miniaturized wristed instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. Seated comfortably at the da Vinci console, your surgeon views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site.
At the same time, state-of-the-art robotic and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate your surgeon's hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments.
The da Vinci Surgery System cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own. It requires that every surgical maneuver be performed with direct input from your surgeon.
While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci® Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
A cystectomy is the removal of all or part of the bladder and possibly the removal of nearby lymph nodes and organs that may contain cancer. If the bladder is removed, the surgeon creates a new way or path for urine to be stored and to leave the body.
If your doctor recommends surgery for bladder cancer, you may be a candidate for minimally invasive da Vinci Cystectomy. da Vinci uses state-of-the-art technology to help your doctor perform a precise operation through a few tiny incisions with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. da Vinci Surgery offers several potential benefits to bladder cancer patients over traditional open surgery, including:
