Emmett T. Boyle, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Boyle joined Genito-Urinary Surgeons in January of 1993.

He grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio. He attended Miami University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology and subsequently enrolled in the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo from 1980 through 1984, where he graduated with honors and was in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. During that time he was class medical representative to the president of MCO. He received the Marion C. Anderson award for surgery. He then was accepted into the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine for his urology residency from 1984-1990.

After graduating from the residency program at Mayo in Rochester, he was asked to stay on staff and took a position at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale from 1990 through 1993. It was during that time that he became board certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He then came back to his home state of Ohio and joined Genito-Urinary Surgeons in 1993.

During his time in Toledo he has been very active in the medical community. He has served on the Medical Executive Committee at The Toledo Hospital from 1994 through the present of 2007. He has been chairman of the Medical Records Committee and a member of the Cancer Committee as well.

He has also served on the Promedica Health System Board from 2001 through 2005 as the physician representative. Dr. Boyle served as chairman of the Department of Surgery for four years and was chairman of the Surgical Policy and Planning Committee. He now is currently the president of the Health Education Research Corporation in Promedica, which is responsible for all graduate medical education ,CME opportunities and research in the Promedica System.

He has also been active outside The Toledo Hospital and was past president of the Northwest Ohio Urologic Society and also served as the president of the Ohio Urologic Society in 2000 to 2001. He has been a board member for the Toledo Community Lithotripsy Center from 2000 to 2005.

Dr. Boyle has been involved in numerous articles and papers in peer review journals. He has been integral in resident education and has been the medical director for the Urology Residency Program at The Toledo Hospital. He serves as clinical associate professor at UT Medical Center.

Cancer treatment has been a particular interest in Dr. Boyle’s career. He has served on the Cancer Committee for Promedica for thirteen years. He is a leader in Northwest Ohio for prostate cancer treatment. Dr. Boyle performed the first daVinci robotic laparoscopic radical retropubic prostatectomy, as well as the first radioactive seed implant for prostate cancer in Northwest Ohio. He was recently appointed the director for Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Toledo Hospital.

Dr. Boyle lives in Sylvania with his wife Pati and his three children which he has coached in numerous sports. He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sylvania, Ohio.
